The Iwein Frescoes
A treasure known far beyond the valley. Anyone walking through the corridors here immediately feels: This castle doesn't just tell. It brings stories to life.
The View into the Gorge
One last step up and you are right in the middle. Stand for a moment at the edge of the wall. Look down into the Rienz Gorge. And feel history.
Between fear, hunger
and superstition.
It is said that a man once lived in the underground corridors of the castle, whom the people called "Lauterfresser".
Not because he was evil. But because someone was needed to blame for fear, hunger, and hardship.
Why do we tell his story?
Not because we want to spread fear. But because the Lauterfresser is a reminder: How quickly people are judged. How stories grow and truth shrinks.
He is no monster. He is a piece of identity.
